Overview 

San Jacinto College designed the Cosmetology, Barber AAS Degree program (60 college credits/700 cosmetology and 300 barber contact hours) to provide technical and practical instruction covering the art of cosmetology and barbering to include shaving, clipper cutting, men’s grooming, and men’s facials. The educational goal of the cosmetology, barbering course of study is to prepare for the Class A Barber state licensing examination and for profitable employment as a barber. Students who successfully complete the Cosmetology, Barber AAS Degree curriculum are qualified to sit for the examination given by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation.

The San Jacinto College Cosmetology, Barber AAS Degree program:

  • Is designed to prepare students with the technical skills and theoretical knowledge required for an entry-level position in the cosmetology, barber  profession;
  • Offers students the opportunity to complete the 1,000 hours of required training to be eligible to take the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation Class A Barber examination; and
  • Prepares students to be barbers, establishment owners and more.

Admission

In accordance with Texas House Bill 1508, the College informs all students in this program who may have a criminal background that a criminal history could keep graduates from being licensed by the state of Texas. Students with any questions about their background and licensure may speak with the Department Chair.
