Program Information
San Jacinto College designed the 1000-hour Barber program (31 college credits) to provide technical and practical instruction covering the art of barbering to include shaving, clipper cutting, men’s grooming, and men’s facials. The educational goal of the barbering course of study is to prepare for the state licensing examination and for profitable employment as a Class A barber. Students who successfully complete the barber curriculum are qualified to sit for the examination given by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation.

Helping others look and feel their best is one of the most rewarding career pathways. The Barber program at San Jacinto College can offer students the opportunity to enter the barber industry. Our program gives students the training they need to become licensed by the state of Texas as Class A barbers. A look around the city will show that numerous opportunities exist to join the barber industry. Students could work anywhere from barber shops to dual barber/cosmetology salons and spas or can follow their dream to open their own business.
The San Jacinto College Barber program:
- Is designed to prepare students with the technical skills and theoretical knowledge required for an entry-level position in the barber profession;
- Offers students the opportunity to complete the 1,000 hours of required training to be eligible to take the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation Class A barber examination; and
- Prepares students to be barber stylists to include shaving, men’s grooming, styling, and more.
