Turn your passion for grooming into a career with San Jacinto College’s Barber Certificate of Technology. In a 1,000-hour, 31-credit program, you’ll master the craft of barbering—clipper cutting, shaving, facials, men’s styling—and build the theoretical foundation to sit for the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) Class A barber exam.

Learning Outcomes and Career Skills
A student completing the last award in the pathway will be able to:
- Demonstrate and apply TDLR and industry mandated safety and sanitation procedures for employment.
- Analyze, design, blueprint, and execute to produce various haircutting, styling techniques, and perform standard shaving techniques.
- Perform various chemical texturizing techniques.
- Perform haircolor procedures, and perform facial techniques.
- Perform intermediate techniques related to haircutting, styling, and manicuring.
- Perform advanced haircutting, and styling techniques and services related to clients.
- Implement Barbershop management skills, marketing, and job research techniques. Exhibit professional behavior, ethical standards in a shop environment, including teamwork, as it relates to the Barber industry and workplace competencies.
- Prepare and practice the skills necessary for the state written and practical exam for entry into the workplace.
Licensure or Certification
Students who successfully complete the barber curriculum are qualified to sit for the examination given by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation.
