Turn Ideas into Code, and Code into Careers

Do you want to know how software works, create your own apps, or design, test, and debug programs that solve real-world problems? San Jacinto College’s Computer Information Technology (CIT) program prepares students to do just that.

The CIT program offers hands-on training in programming, information systems, and IT support, building the technical and problem-solving skills needed for today’s technology-driven workplace. Students design, write, test, and refine programs in multiple programming languages, working both independently and in teams.

Graduates are prepared for transfer into bachelor’s programs in computer science or information systems, as well as for immediate employment in software and IT roles.

Learning & Career Pathway

The learning pathway for this career track has a series of related and “stacked” certificates and degrees. You may start at any point on the pathway and earn the certificates on your way to completing the degree.

Learning Outcomes and Career Skills

A student completing the last award in the pathway will be able to:

  • Describe the major characteristics of a cloud computing environment including the roles and boundaries between a cloud provider and cloud consumer.
  • Define cloud security threats and vulnerabilities and describe cloud security mechanisms.
  • Define and distinguish between cloud infrastructure mechanisms such as virtual servers, storage, usage, and monitoring.
  • Install, configure, troubleshoot, and utilize Linux systems.
  • Design and administer a database.

External Learning Experiences

Students in San Jacinto College programs with external learning experiences (e.g., clinicals, practicums, externships, cooperatives) must meet the immunization requirements of the host sites. These requirements are set by the facilities, not the College. Failure to comply may limit a student’s ability to complete the program or delay graduation. San Jacinto College does not process exemptions; students must address any exemption requests directly with the host site.
