San Jacinto College occasionally offers supervised classes and activities for children, including high school students enrolled in dual credit programs. However, at all other times, children may not remain unattended on campus, nor may children attend classes with their parents or family members. Students must make proper arrangements for regular childcare while at work or in class.
A parent of a minor child must supervise the child while at San Jacinto College and may not leave them in the custody of a College employee or other student, even for brief periods of time.
The parent is responsible for all aspects of the child(ren)’s behavior, safety, and is financially responsible for any damages caused by the child(ren).
Minor child(ren) who have an illness that prevents or would prevent them from being accepted by a regular daycare provider, or school, should never be brought to campus.
Responsible adults may be asked to remove the minor child(ren) from the campus at any time. If a responsible adult is not available, then CPS may be called.
Reporting child abuse and neglect: Under Texas law, a person who reasonably believes that a child is being abused, neglected, or exploited must report it to the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS) or law enforcement. The duty to report applies to abuse or neglect of any child who is 17 or younger, including dual credit students enrolled at San Jacinto College. Reports may be made at any time to DFPS by phone at 1-800-252-5400 or online at Texas Abuse Hotline (www.txabusehotline.org). The hotline and website are available 24 hours a day, seven (7) days a week. In addition to notifying DFPS and/or law enforcement, employees may be required to report suspected abuse or neglect of minors to the Title IX Coordinator. When a crime is in progress, individuals should immediately call 911.
