Boost Your Edge: Instrumentation Technology Enhanced Skills Certificate
The Instrumentation Technology Enhanced Skills Certificate (ESC) at San Jacinto College is an advanced credential for students who already hold or are completing the Instrumentation Technology AAS degree. This 6-credit certificate expands your competence in advanced analyzers and physical properties instrumentation, making you more marketable in control systems, process automation, and analytical instrumentation roles. Students work in San Jac’s sophisticated labs—including PLC and DCS environments, flow, pressure, temperature, level, and analyzer platforms, and a full-scale process unit—to master installation, calibration, and troubleshooting of industrial control systems.

- Apply industry-specific methods to collect, interpret, and analyze data using advanced analyzers, including gas chromatographs, pH analyzers, and conductivity analyzers.
- Calibrate, troubleshoot, maintain program, and repair advanced analyzers such as gas chromatographs and pH/Conductivity meters.
- Manage analyzer environmental tracking database required by governing environmental agencies such as TCEQ (Texas Commission on Environmental Quality), the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency).
External Learning Experiences
This program includes external learning experiences outside of the classroom, e.g., an internship, externship, clinical, practicum, or cooperative learning experience. Those experiences are typically on-site at a business or organization.
All students participating in external learning experiences are required to comply with the immunization requirements and policies of the external learning sites. Some learning sites outside the college have their own vaccination requirements. These rules come from those facilities and are not mandated by the college. Failure to meet those immunization requirements may limit a student’s ability to complete the program and/or may delay the student’s graduation date. San Jacinto College does not process exemptions, and students should address potential vaccination exemptions directly with the external learning site.
