Focus on the Future: Specialize in Mammography
The Mammography Enhanced Skills Certificate at San Jacinto College is designed for registered radiologic technologists who want to expand their expertise in breast imaging. This advanced program provides hands-on training in mammographic positioning, patient care, image evaluation, quality assurance, and radiation safety. Graduates are prepared to sit for the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) post-primary certification exam in mammography and to advance their careers in hospitals, imaging centers, and women’s health facilities.

Job Entry Requirements. In accordance with Texas House Bill 1508 amendments to Texas Occupations Code Sec 53.152, the College informs all students in this program who may have a criminal background that a criminal history could keep graduates from being licensed by the state of Texas. Students with any questions about their background and licensure may speak with the program’s department chair.
Learning & Career Pathway
This is an Enhanced Skills Certificate that builds from your prior learning experiences. This award requires having previously earned an associate degree in medical imaging.
Learning Outcomes and Career Skills
A student completing the last award in the pathway will be able to:
- Critically integrate knowledge in positioning, patient care, radiation protection, and equipment manipulation necessary to produce diagnostic quality images.
- Employ appropriate verbal and nonverbal communication skills in a clinical or professional situation to support the healthcare team in providing the best patient outcomes.
- Embody professional standards of conduct by demonstrating unrestricted care regardless of patient attributes and condition and employ ethically sound decisions.
Licensure or Certification
Applicants must be American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) registered in Radiography and hold a Texas Medical Board Medical Radiologic Technologist License.
External Learning Experiences
This program includes external learning experiences outside of the classroom, e.g., an internship, externship, clinical, practicum, or cooperative learning experience. Those experiences are typically on-site at a business or organization.
All students participating in external learning experiences are required to comply with the immunization requirements and policies of the external learning sites. Some learning sites outside the college have their own vaccination requirements. These rules come from those facilities and are not mandated by the college. Failure to meet those immunization requirements may limit a student’s ability to complete the program and/or may delay the student’s graduation date. San Jacinto College does not process exemptions, and students should address potential vaccination exemptions directly with the external learning site.

In addition to being admitted to the College, students must also be admitted to the Medical Imaging, Mammography, Enhanced Skills Certificate which has additional requirements and/or steps. Meeting minimum admission requirements does not guarantee acceptance into the program.

Capstone Experience: MAMT 2363 Clinical - Mammography Technology
Students must earn a C or better in all Mammography Technology (MAMT) courses and maintain an overall cumulative GPA of at least 2.0 to remain in and/or graduate from the program.
